Woman dies after alleged stabbing

A squatter settlement in Suva is in shock after an alleged stabbing incident that led to the death of a woman in the area over the weekend.

Police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro confirmed the alleged incident happened at Nanuku settlement in Vatuwaqa.

She said a man in his 40s was in police custody for allegedly causing the death of his defacto partner.

A 21-year-old woman who spoke under the condition of anonymity said they were terrified by what happened.

She said an aunt found the woman lying motionless in a pool of blood inside her home. A family member who also spoke under the condition of anonymity said the incident had shocked family members.

Ms Naisoro said the alleged stabbing incident took place on Sunday afternoon and the victim was taken to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

She said a post-mortem examination would be conducted as police investigations continued.
