Woman claims grab and run

A WOMAN who was a victim of a grab and run theft has called on motorists to be vigilant while travelling in Suva.

Theresa Fox claimed she lost $5000 in cash and valuables when a young boy snatched her bag while she was driving.

“The robbery happened in Nabua,” the 41-year-old said.

“I was dropping off a parcel at a relative’s place along Sukanaivalu Rd, Nabua last Friday. I was driving down the road between 7.30pm and 8pm. When I slowed down to turn into a bend, a young boy reached into my car and grabbed my bag which was on the front passenger seat.”

Ms Fox said she stopped the car and pursued the thief on foot but he managed to flee.

“While I was running, I was screaming and telling other people to stop him, the traffic had slowed down at that point as well but no one got off their car to help me.”

Ms Fox said the boy was identified by women in the area.

“The women told me that there is a group of young boys who do this grab and run thefts about three or four times a week.”

She said the issue needed to be addressed because people were terrified of becoming victims of theft while driving.
