Weather watch: Heavy rain and strong wind warnings remain in force

A heavy rain alert remains in force for Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands and the Northern Lau Group.
According to the Fiji Met Service, a flash flood alert remains in force for low lying areas and areas adjacent to rivers and streams for Vanua Levu, Serua Coastal areas to Togalevu and Ba to Korovou.
The Fiji Met added a strong wing warning remains in force for land areas of Eastern half of Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands and the Lau Group.
This is due to a trough of low pressure which remains slow moving over the northern parts of the group.
Meanwhile, a shallow low pressure system lies to southeast of Vanua Levu embedded along the trough.
Forecast to midnight tonight for the Fiji group for Eastern half of Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands and the Lau group to have fresh to strong northerly winds with average speed of 50km/hr from tomorrow.
The rest of Fiji group can expect moderate to fresh winds, gusty at times.
