SUVA Cricket Association have kickstarted their 2019/2020 season with a positive turnout yesterday at Albert Park in Suva.

Eleven clubs are part of this year’s season which will be running until next year.

Association board member Nishantha Fernando said there was a positive turnout in this year’s competition and a new team has joined which was a good sign for the season.

“It has been running good so far, having 11 teams this year, although last year there were 12 teams but so far so good. The new inclusion this year is Total Social sports club and they have got a bunch of new players who are playing cricket for the first time,” said Fernando.

“The teams are doing pretty well, although it’s a minority game we have a lot of people joining,” he added.

The association is also planning to form a strong team to the Easter Games in the coming year.

“In the last Easter Games, Suva had come out victorious so through this club game we are hoping to form another good team for the next Easter Games which is organised by Cricket Fiji,” said Fernando.

“Currently we are liaising with a few sponsors because we want to maintain the quality of the game, especially with game balls, scoring and umpiring. So through proper sponsorship we will be able to get neutral umpires and scorers to maintain the standard of the game and that is what we are working on,” he said.
