THE son of missing 68-year-old Chile national Fernando Spichiger Maturana is travelling to Fiji to help find his father.
Jose Spichiger confirmed he was travelling to the country after news broke that his father went missing on Tuesday in Matacawalevu Village, Yasawa. Friends of the Chilean have launched an online campaign to find more information to help find him.
Family friend Jorge Sandoval said they were hoping to find information that could help locate Mr Spichiger. “Our friend Fernando Alberto Spichiger Maturana arrived in Fiji three days ago and is missing, his boat’s name is Laoumaran,” he said.
“Despite some people searching until today (yesterday), we have been unable to locate him, if you could please share this news just in case people can help the family who are really devastated in Chile.”
Meanwhile, Matacawalevu Village headman Viliame Amo said the search for Mr Spichiger continued yesterday.
“A second team of police officers arrived today and they helped us with the search,” he said.
“We looked through the hills and a lot of swimming spots that we usually go to.
Hopefully something will come up soon.”
