Province raises $42k for scholarships

The people of Ra collected $42,757 for their Siga Vou kei Ra Scholarship Trust Fund on the weekend, with a soli of $40,700 coming from the Marama Tui Lawaki, Adi Taina Dawai.
Fund chairman Josaia Niudamu said the funds raised would be used for paying scholarships for tertiary students from Ra.
“We had invited the Marama Tui Lawaki to be our guest and we were elated that she made a huge soli of almost $40,000,” he said.
“We managed to collect $42,757.10 for the Siga Vou kei Ra Scholarship Trust Fund.
“I would like to thank the people of Ra for collecting these funds during this difficult moment.”
Contributions received last Saturday saw the Marama Tui Lawaki giving in $40,700 and soli from the Yavusa Ko-I-Vuda was $701.55.
The tikina of Saivou handed in $473.90, the people of Nakorotubu collected $653, the tikina of Nalawa handed over $717 while the tikina of Rakiraki gave $211.65.
The day-long soli event was held at the Saivou District School.
