THE election is another step in establishing Fiji firmly as a democracy, says United Nations resident coordinator Sanaka Samarasinha.

Mr Samarasinha said he was excited that Fiji was going to have an election this year.

“I am looking forward to the engagement of the whole society in a constructive way because this is an opportunity to have a dialogue on issues,” he said.

Mr Samarasinha has urged whichever party that comes into power to reflect on those issues during their time leading up to the elections.

“It is also important when people come and go that the system continues.

“I am also looking forward to the day after elections, a day that the engine is still ticking and we keep moving forward.”

Fiji is set to go to the polls on November 14, 2018.
