Nadi rugby launches franchise

IN its bid to improve its standing and performance in the Skipper Cup and HFC Bank Farebrother Sullivan trophy competition, Jack’s Nadi yesterday launched a franchise competition.
A total of six franchise teams have been formed and all playing kits were sponsored by Jack’s of Fiji through its QAQA brand.
Nadi rugby chairman Sekove Tuilakeba said the main objective of the franchise was to lift Nadi’s performance in the provincial competition.
He said the cream of players from each club would form each franchise team and the cream players from the franchise to be selected for the main Nadi team.
Tuilakeba also thanked Jack’s of Fiji for its commitment and support over the years.
“This is a milestone achievement for the union and it’s part of our strategic plan to lift the standard of rugby in Nadi,” he said.
“We are looking for new way forward and we thank Jack’s of Fiji for supporting us throughout the years.
“We also ask the support and commitment of affiliated clubs as this is a strategy to identify players from club rugby to this level.
“It is not about winning but to select the cream of players and have a wide base to select our players from. “To bear fruit in 2019 we need to have a wide base of players to choose from and there is no shortcut to success.
“I hope it will be an exciting eight weeks of competition.” QAQA brand manager Biu Tadranu challenged the officials and players to be committed.
“On behalf of Jack’s of Fiji we thank Nadi rugby for the commitment it has shown for the past years.
“This is the first time to be involved with the Nadi Franchise and we are proud to be associated Nadi rugby.
“The poor performance of the team will also put us down and I challenged the union to do their best next season,” he added.
The first round of games will be held tomorrow.
