Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources Filimoni Vosarogo says since taking office, noted a serious deliberate disregard of Cabinet directive by the previous government when it issued the lease of the said land to Tian Lun Investments Pte Ltd knowing that they had not rescinded a previous decision not to allow that land to be used other than for State use.
And he has confirmed an investigation would be conducted to that effect.
“We will investigate further why the previous government decided to lease the land despite the existence of an existing decision that the said land is not to be used for anything other than state use,” Mr Vosarogo said in a statement.
“If there is any impropriety or irregularity involved that may be criminal, the matter will be reported to an investigating authority.
“That being said and done, he emphasised that given these circumstances, there is no right of expectation for renewal.”
In the same statement issued Monday evening, Mr Vosarogo noted the ministry’s refusal to extend the development lease for the company for a proposed development project along Queen Elizabeth Drive in Suva.
