Japanese Government provides $5.8m support

THE Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development today received  $5.8m worth of machinery and equipment from the Government of Japan.

Japanese Ambassador to Fiji Masahiro Omura while officiating at the handover ceremony said the assistance for Economic and Social Development (ESDP) was signed in May 2016.

“The equipment was procured under ESDP with a total value of $5.8m.”

He said the Japanese Government hopes that the equipment will support in improving the capability of Fiji’s disaster management, disaster response and also support restoring the livelihoods of those affected by disasters at divisional level.

Minister responsible Dr Mahendra Reddy while accepting the machinery and equipment  on behalf of the Government said the equipment would be used by the three ministries including the Ministry of Environment and Waterways and the Ministry of Agriculture to help build sustainable communities.
