The safety of hotel workers at quarantine facilities in Nadi is also important and they are now being tested after eight cases of COVID-19 cases at border control, says Health Minister Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete.
“They are safe and we have been working hand in hand with them for a couple of months now,” he said.
“We’ve been building this experience and this is a new one and no one has had COVID-19 before.
“The need to have hotels as quarantine facilities, and we’ve had our health inspectors and processes in place.
“They know where the green zone, amber zone and the red zone within those quarantine facilities (hotels).
“Now we have cases in quarantine facilities, they are being tested as well and just to make sure that there is no community transmission.”
Dr Waqainabete added the ministry was working closely with Ministry of Tourism and tourism stakeholders as Fiji tackles COVID-19 impact.
He also confirmed that hotel workers were allowed to go to their homes after work as there were stringent monitoring rules in place.
