From the Editor-in-Chief’s desk: Your June 6 briefing

Faith in God and the support of fans played a huge part in the Fijian Drua team’s win against the Reds last week. Skipper Meli Derenalagi said this allowed the team to reach a historic Super Rugby Pacific quarter-finals berth in only their second year in the competition. The side beat the Reds 41-17 last week and will face the mighty Crusaders at Orangetheory Stadium in Christchurch at 7.05pm on Saturday.
That’s the picture story on the front page of The Fiji Times for Tuesday, June 6.
“Provide irrefutable evidence that I promised to pay $110 per tonne of cane to cane growers during campaign for the 2022 general elections or shut up.” Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Professor Biman Prasad made the comment after Fiji Labour Party Leader and National Farmers Union general secretary Mahendra Chaudhry said the Finance Minister should honour his election promise and allocate funds in the Budget to raise the price to $110 per tonne.
Professor Prasad said he never made any such promise during the last election campaign. That’s the big news on Page 1.
