Fijians perform well

THE women’s grade has concluded with team Fiji surfers putting in strong performances at the 2019 ISA World Surfing Games in Miyazaki, Japan.

“The women’s draw has concluded with Hannah Bennett finishing 54th, Kim Bennett finished 80th and Kayla Wakeham finished 95th in a field of 115 female surfers,” said Surfing Fiji coach Ian Portingale.

“The men are surfing at the moment.” Unfortunately Inia Nakalevu has been eliminated Both Kalani Wakeham and Api Tibinaliva are still going and should surf later today (yesterday),” he said.

Portingale highlighted the team was performing well against strong competition from all over the world.

“The whole team have been performing well against the world best surfers from 55 countries. Some more experienced surfers are struggling to perform in the small soft surf conditions.”

The 2019 ISA World Surfing Games is also a selection event for the 2020 Olympics in Japan, along with the 2020 ISA World Open Surfing games early next year where the 40 Olympic surfers will be announced.
