THE Fiji Police Force has recorded a 5 per cent drop in overall criminal activities from January to September this year.

While officiating at the Fiji Police Basic Recruit Course passing out parade at the Nasova Fiji Police Academy grounds today, Minister for Defence, National Security and Foreign Affairs Inia Seruiratu congratulated police officers for their achievement despite ongoing public attacks against their work.

“We know that a lot of effort has been directed towards curbing crime,” Mr Seruiratu said.

“A 1 per cent reduction of serious crime was also recorded for the same period this year, and I commend you all for your hard work.

“However, I am gravely concerned about crimes against women and children, and I am urging you to strengthen your community policing initiatives to get the community involved from non-government organisations, religious bodies and community groups.”

Mr Seruiratu said those were moral crimes that needed everyone’s support if it were to be combatted to prevent more innocent women and children from becoming victims of domestic violence.
