Fiji Met office to speed up forecasting

Fiji Met is gearing up and getting ready to ensure that they are up to speed in weather forecasting, in hydrological assessments, forecasting of coastal inundation and also for flooding forecasts as the cyclone season approaches.
This, according to Minister for Infrastructure, Meteorological Services, Lands and Mineral Resources Jone Usamate. He said the meteorological services was allocated $4.84 million to provide timely and quality weather, climate and hydrological information to the public.
“Part of their budget will be used for the completion of the Viwa Island Station to improve the living and working conditions of our staff on the island and to protect their instruments and equipment that we have there,” he said.
He said it was essential for their network to ensure that they have consistent weather reporting.
