THE 5th Fiji Bitter PHS Navua Sevens is set to kick start today at Thompson Park in Navua.

Tournament organizer Eneriko Cakau said the tournament had a lot of interest from teams around the country.

“This year we have received many interest from teams who wanted to be part of the tournament but unfortunately we only were able to register 32 teams to take part,” said Cakau.

“The prominent teams that will be playing are Tabadamu and Uluinakau and the rest of the teams are mostly new ones.”

“Seeing the response from a lot of teams has given us a boost to make the tournament bigger in the coming years. We have told the teams that were late in registration that they can always register again next year,” said Cakau.

Cakau thanked the major sponsors, Fiji Bitter for sponsoring the event.

“The prize money for this year sits at $3000 for the winning team compared to $2000 in the previous years and we are grateful to Paradise Beverages limited for their sponsorship,” said Cakau.

“The ground is in good condition and people have already set up their stalls in preparation for the tournament tomorrow (today),” he said.

Cakau urged all fans and supporters to come out in numbers to support their teams in the two days of competition.

The game will kick off at 10am in Thompson Park, Navua.
