THE Fijian Elections Office will pursue legal action on those who try to undermine the election process through misinformation.

This was the directive from the Supervisor of Elections, Mohammed Saneem, after a Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) volunteer claimed on social media that the FEO had an extra 1400 voters on the voter roll.

Mr Saneem said these types of posts on social media could lead to misinformation regarding the whole election process.

“Particularly if someone represents a political party and this sort of behaviour will only lead to misinformation regarding the whole election process and this is not a time to joke around, it’s a time to be serious about the voters’ registrar,” he said.

FEO electronic voter registration co-ordinator Litia Sema clarified that claims made by the party volunteer on three polling stations, namely Wai District School in Sigatoka, Yavu community hall in Lomaiviti and DAV College in Ba with regards to the number of voters were wrong.

Ms Sema said the numbers for the Wai District School was 110 which SODELPA claimed was 1416.

She said the Yavu community hall had only 86 voters from the claimed 471, and the numbers at the DAV College in Ba remained at 720.
