FROM the cane belt areas of Labasa to the Land of the Rising Sun, two students from Naleba College will represent Fiji at Japan’s Kids Champion Program.

After being crowned winners of Japan’s Kids Champion program, Naleba College will send two students, a teacher and a parent to attend the program in Japan.

Out of the 208 schools that participated in the local program and applied for the Japanese program, Naleba College won the Fiji category.

The students — Poseci Baleikasavu and Sanyogita Sanjani — have vowed to learn as much as they can from their Japanese counterparts.

School principal Sainul Ali said there were five schools from Pacific Island countries that would attend the program.

The Japan team has also won $20,000 to help them continue with the local program when they return next month.

“This is historic for our school and a milestone achievement as it’s the first time for us to win such an award and an international one too,” she said.

“For the local program, we concentrated on the areas of water and hygiene, mental health, physical activity and WASH. Our team will leave for Japan on October 1 and return on October 15 and while there, they will also be given a chance to watch the Rugby World Cup match.”

While in Japan, Mrs Ali said the team would live with Japanese families and learn about their lifestyle.
