THE TC:TS (tonnes per cane to tonnes per sugar) ratio has dropped to 11.5tonnes from an initial 13.5tonnes.

Despite the drop in TC:TS, Ministry of Sugar permanent secretary Yogesh Karan has called on the Fiji Sugar Corporation to drop this ratio further down to 8.5 or 7.5tonnes.

“We need to drop the TC:TS further down to 8.5 or 7.5 tonnes as this is our target,” he said.

“We have had discussions with FSC and they need to lift their game up and ensure that the target is achieved within the shortest possible time.

“I have met with the FSC chief executive to discuss this issue and he explained why the TC:TS was high in the start of the season.”

The inconsistent supply of cane to the Labasa and Lautoka mills due to restricted gross weight of 16.5 tonnes,

Mr Karan said contributed to the high TCTS.

“But the supply is now consistent and we expect FSC to achieve the target of TCTS,” he said.
