COVID-19: Fiji records 105 cases; over 1000 since second outbreak in April

Fiji has reported 105 new cases of COVID-19 tonight, taking the total number of infections since the outbreak started in April over 1000.

Ministry of Health permanent secretary Dr James Fong said of the 105 cases, 98 of the new cases are linked to the following existing clusters:

  • CWMH – 21
  • Nawajikuma, Nawaka, Nadi – 16
  • Tramline, Nawaka, Nadi – 6
  • Kinoya – 1
  • Navosai – 2
  • Waila -11
  • Navy – 11
  • IMT – 8
  • Muanikoso – 15

Dr Fong said cases from the following areas are under investigation to determine whether they have links to other cases:

  • Grantham Road – 5
  • Tacirua – 2

He said eight patients have recovered with 796 active cases in isolation while 1048 cases were recorded during the current outbreak that started two months ago.

FACT FILE:

  • 1118 cases in Fiji since the first case was reported in March 2020
  • 312 recoveries
  • Four deaths due to COVID-19
  • Six COVID-19 positive patients have died from pre-existing non-COVID-19 related illnesses
