Communication vital for sound and wise decisions, says Uluinayau

SENIOR staff members of Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) have been reminded to ensure that they were performing good international project management practices.

While addressing WAF senior staff during its two-day CAPEX implementation workshop in Suva yesterday, WAF general manager customer services and acting general manager operations Sekove Uluinayau said it would be a frustrating scenario to have a project manager who was slow in implementing water or wastewater project.

“Imagine a project whereby we have busted our budget, gone over the intended timeline of completion and we have built something well outside of the intended scope of the project, there is little or no care attitude by the person responsible, what would happen?,” he said.

“I tell you, we would have angry, frustrated and even vulgar customers, call centre would be ringing off the hook, and customers would resort to reaching out to the honourable Prime Minister or the WAF board –– resulting in a lot of problems.”

Mr Uluinayau said communication was imperative because without communication, it would be impossible to make sound and wise decisions.

“I encourage you to always communicate with each other, when there is a problem –– speak up –– inform us. The last thing I want is to read or learn of WAF’s service issues in the newspapers the next day.

“If it continues that way, we will have a very negative impression by the customers and residents within the areas of our operations and even the whole country and even the world to a certain extent.”
