IT will be a battle between the two cities when hosts Suva takes on defending champion Lautoka in the 2018 Courts Inter District Championship final today at the ANZ Stadium in Suva.
Lautoka outclassed Nadi 3-1 in the first semi-final of the premier division before Suva hammered Labasa 4-0 to book its spot in the grand final.
The Capital City side showed sheer pace and played constructive football to score two goals in a space of two minutes in the first half through Bruce Hughes and Napolioni Qasevakatini.
In the second spell Bruce Hughes scored his second goal in the 51st minute to extend the lead for Suva to 3-0 before captain Filipe Baravilala’s free kick took a deflection to take Suva’s tally to four at the final whistle.
Suva last won the IDC title in 2014 at home while Lautoka is the defending champion.
Both teams’ performances for the past four days has been consistent despite both teams losing a game each in pool games.
Fiji football chief executive officer Mohammed Yusuf said the final between the 2014 champions and last year’s winner would be a thriller and fans are urged to come and support their teams.
“This will be an exciting final because both teams have lost a game each in the pool games and have both improved their structure in the semi-final to reach the final, so it will be anyone’s game between the two teams,” Yusuf said.
“Fans are urged to come in numbers and support their team because we know it will be an exciting final to watch.”
