Former New Zealand cricket captain Brendon McCullum says he was heartbroken to read a fake story on social media that his brother had died.
McCullum’s brother Nathan, who also played for the Black Caps, has now posted on Twitter that he is “alive and kicking more than ever before”.
But earlier posts on Facebook and Twitter claimed Nathan McCullum had died from complications in hospital.
Fellow cricketers, including Australian great Shane Warne have been posting messages of condolence to the McCullum family.
In a post this morning, Brendon McCullum said his heart broke when he read the post on a flight back to New Zealand.
In the post he said he would find the person responsible, “somewhere, somehow”.
The New Zealand Cricket Fanhub Facebook page which posted the incorrect story, has apologised to the McCullum family and said it would guarantee it would not happen again.
