The Fiji Airways 7s national team coach Gareth Baber will continue to hunt for players to be part of the national squad for the upcoming World Rugby Sevens Series, and next month’s Oceania 7s in Suva.

Baber had a training session in Suva yesterday with some members of his squad.

He is expected to visit some local 7s tournaments to scout for players.

“I want to access the quality of tournaments that are here,” Baber said.

“It’s important for us as a team and for the competition and we treat that with respect and when we go to a tournament we want to be competitive and make it a good tournament.

“I’m always looking at talents and ultimately seeing people playing against the Fiji team, there are some talents that could be drafted into the squad.”

The Fiji 7s team has been participating in various tournaments and Baber is trying out all his new players and trying to bring out the fire in them as they look forward to their first international tournament in November.

“Participating in local tournaments and the Oceania 7s provide the opportunity to introduce new players and get some players who are already in the system to play together as a team. It helps us select the best players for the series.”

Meanwhile, the Fiji 7s team will travel to Kadavu, Vanua Levu and selected local tournaments as part of its preparation.”
