Customers who cancel a taxi booking after engaging its services via the proposed Vodo mobile phone app will have to pay a cancellation fee of $5.
This, according to the Land Transport Authority’s expression of interest in relation to the development of the app.
The LTA expression of interest also stated any customer who performed more than three cancellations within 14 days would be placed on a hotlist and not be provided future taxi services.
The expression of interest said customers who did not use the Vodo app and opted to hail down taxis on the streets would be charged an additional $2 to their metered cab fare.
The LTA stated this was designed to encourage customers to register for and use the app.
The LTA expression of interest also stated customers would be required to register for the app and provide their full name, home address, date of birth, TIN, payment reference of either cash, debit or credit card, eTransport card and link to Vodafone eTransport card hot listing.
It was also stated registration was limited to adult customers who would also be required to upload a recent clear facial photograph.
Taxi operators would be required to pay a registration fee (to be determined) in two payments the first of which would enable registration on to the Vodo taxi app system and upon receipt of the second payment, the app would go live.
The proposed Vodo app has been rejected by the Fiji Taxi Association.
Association general secretary Ashwin Lal said this was “worrying” because it could result in customers opting to hire illegal pirate transport services.
“Once these customers are not provided taxi services, they will use the private vehicles that provide illegal services and this is a concern for us,” he said.
“Illegal taxis should first be dealt with because we have been affected as well.”
